Never stood behind a controller and want to learn DJing? In the Club DJing Beginner Workshop you get a first insight into DJing and learn how a transition between two tracks works.

Get to know the controls of current club DJ controllers: jog wheel, pitch, crossfader, cue
Load your first track and set a hot cue
Bring two tracks to the same tempo (beatmatching)
Learn simple transitions between 2 tracks
Get to know the most important DJ effects
Use EQ and filters so that two tracks don't get in each other's way
Understand how a DJ set is built
Practise on the controllers in our classroom (Pioneer XDJ-RX2 / XDJ-RX3)

Material & controllers
This applies to

What we provide

  • DJ stations with Pioneer XDJ-RX2 / XDJ-RX3 – they run without a laptop, right on the controller's screen
  • More controllers such as the Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 to try out in the classroom
  • Small speakers at every station – for playing your mix to the group

What you need

  • No prior knowledge – you start from scratch
  • No laptop – in Zurich we work right on the screen of the DJ controllers, you don't need to install anything
  • Wired headphones (3.5 mm jack, ideally with a 6.3 mm adapter) – you practise at the device with them. Bluetooth doesn't work for DJing

Optional

  • Your own Pioneer DJ controller if you prefer to work on the gear you know – otherwise you may share a set with someone. If it has no screen of its own, bring your laptop too

Frequently asked questions

Do I need prior knowledge or my own equipment?
No. The workshop is made for complete beginners, and we provide the DJ controllers. In Zurich we work right on the controllers' screens, without a laptop. Everything you need is listed under Material & controllers.
How is the workshop different from the Club DJ Kurs – Pioneer & Rekordbox?
The workshop gives you a first insight into DJing and transitions between songs. The Club DJ Kurs – Pioneer & Rekordbox is the full training on the club setup. The workshop is the ideal preparation for it.
Is the workshop recommended if I want to do the Club DJ Kurs afterwards anyway?
Yes. It clearly lowers the barrier to entry and you start the main course with a basic understanding – which makes the Club DJ Kurs more relaxed and more effective.
What can I do after the workshop?
You understand the DJ setup and can mix simple transitions between songs. How to build whole sets is what you learn next in the Club DJ Kurs.
Is the workshop also available online?
DJing is learned at the decks, so the workshop takes place in person.
What happens if I miss the date?
Let us know at least 2 weeks before the date – then we can still move you to another one.
